Getting there and around

Marseille Provence airport (MRS), France's third busiest, is about 25 minutes from the centre and links more than 120 destinations across 33 countries, handy for frequent round trips. Saint-Charles station puts Paris about 3 h away by TGV, with direct connections to Lille, Strasbourg and the main regional cities. For intercontinental long-haul flights, the airport usefully complements Nice's reach.

The rhythm of the year

Activity concentrates between March and July, then in September and October after the summer break, windows when characterful supply moves fast. For a remote buyer, May-June and September offer the best balance between available choice and workable viewings away from tourist peaks. The winter months (January and February) are quieter: less competition, but also thinner inventory.
